Here’s our list of 10 web design predictions for 2017! Web design is becoming an increasing need for a website to attract the attention of users. There are many trends in creative domains – anything creatively based will continue to grow and change – it’s difficult to see every one of them but here are just 10 predictions for web design in 2017.
The age of 3D
3D is coming up soon in web design. WebGL and CSS 3D Transformations are not new but they will be contributing to the 3D upsurge. Virtual reality is also fast approaching, examples being A-frame and ReactVR. We will also probably see more animation in web design. This will trump static imagery in getting user’s attention.
More compensation for mobile devices
With the responsive web design on the rise it now need not be an afterthought to design pages to flow and fit well onto mobile devices. Web design will focus on better compensation for smaller screens.
Greater teamwork approach towards design
There are now tools available like shared templates and dashboards, that are improving collaboration when it comes to web design. Better communication between developers and designers and also within designing teams are inevitable, meaning better products.
More use of UI and UX patterns
UI and UX patterns are already being used to a large extent and in 2017, they will take off completely. These are very user friendly and make for websites across the internet to have a consistent regular feel that will boost usability.
Simpler, better WordPress
At first WordPress was the master of the small business owner market but they have been recently overtaken by web builders that are just easier to use, such as Squarespace and Wix. But WordPress isn’t over yet, and we will probably see in 2017 a new and improved version. Critical Web Solutions is now offering Divi theme with the Divi Builder for all new web designs, the most advanced website builder ever!
Brighter bolder colour use
Colours used in branding and interfacing will undoubtedly become bolder, more eye-catching and daring as in 2016 we have seen web designers begin to move away from ‘safer’ colour palettes (e.g. the Instagram logo). Oversaturation and gradients to be expected.
Web designers will begin to use the concept of responsive web design to actively produce content relevant to a specific audience. User focus will mean that many characteristics of the user will be considered during service delivery such as demographics and context. It’s time for more dynamic web design.
Originality in images
Stock images will be in the decline as websites seek to attract user’s attention with bright and original images. Resources like pexels will provide excellent imagery for web design use for free. Designers may also begin using more custom illustration and hand drawn iconography.
An interesting prediction to watch out for is the rise of story-telling. These will see more creative use of multi-media within web design, especially video.
A change in menu
Instead of the old ‘hamburger menu’ web design is moving more towards meganav and immersive navigation. Menus in 2017 will have fewer top level items and instead move towards drop-down menus that reveal sublevels of the menus.
With these 10 predictions of web design in 2017, we can look forwards to higher burst of innovation and creativity that create vivid and bold websites.
